H.G. Schilling (August 28, 1920 - August 6, 2005)

 

Harold George Schilling was born to Christoph and Fredaricka Schilling on August 28, 1920 in Akaska, South Dakota.  He was baptized as a child of God on November 11, 1920 and was confirmed on July 10, 1934.  Harold attended high school in Java, South Dakota where he was Valedictorian of his class.  He attended the South Dakota Business College in Aberdeen, South Dakota and took business classes from the University of Minnesota.

At age 18 he began working for Socony Vacuum Oil Company in Aberdeen, South Dakota where he met Marian Hughes.  Harold entered the Navy in 1942 where he continued his education at the University of Indiana, Duke University and Notre Dame.  He then served as an Ensign in the South Pacific during World War II.  After returning from the war, Harold married Marian on June 14, 1946 and they were blessed with three children Jan, Ron and Ann. 

He continued to work for Socony Vacuum Oil Company and was transferred to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1957 where he became a department supervisor for Mobil Oil, the company that bought Socony Vacuum.  In 1959, Harold and his family moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where Harold became the Regional Employee Relations Manager for fifteen years. While in Wisconsin, Marian and Harold made many lifelong friends.  In 1974, Harold and Marian moved to Dallas, Texas where Harold was the Employee Relations Manager for the Dallas Accounting Center.  He proudly worked for Mobil Oil for 43 years.  Harold retired in Dallas in 1981 where he and Marian enjoyed the many friends from work, King of Glory Church and the neighborhood. 

In 2003, Harold and Marian moved to Denver, Colorado to be near their daughter, Jan.  Harold’s Alzheimer disease progressed and in March he was moved to the Sunrise Assisted Living Center where on August 6 the Lord took him to his heavenly home.  Harold was always a “good and faithful” servant for the Lord.  He was the building committee chairman, President of the congregation, taught Sunday school and was a Steven Minister with Marian. 

Loving him eternally are his wife, Marian, of 59 years, daughter Jan (Glen) Burmeister, son Ron (Sheryl) Schilling, daughter Ann (Brian) Maki, grandchildren Chad (Tracey), Kelly, Todd (Erin), Kari (Steven), Lindsey, Jessica, Kristi, Brandon, Katie and David, great grandchildren Traeton, Brendan, Brianna, Logan and Addison, his sister Alma (Bob) Omland and other caring relatives and friends.  Harold is preceded in death by brother Albert (Norma) and sister Hilda (Charles) Reich.
